The majority of the work you can view on this website is developed from my observations of the figure and particularly the body in action. Sketches made from life become the starting point of much of my mixed media abstract paintings. As well as using them as inspiration I also collage parts of the sketches onto the working surface and they become part of the history of the piece. I work intuitively which takes the paintings in new directions away from the original motif though still retaining the gestural energy felt when working from life.
I have recently begun to work from the landscape also. The peat moss area close to my home on the outskirts of Manchester has begun to be reclaimed as a nature reserve and species which were original to the area reintroduced. The changing nature of this landscape in different seasons and weather conditions is my inspiration.
