Gillian Hamilton

Gillian’s abstract work begins with gestural lines and marks with which she conveys the exhilaration of movement.
Using a mix of media and intuitive mark making allows Gillian to switch between blocks of colour and lines portraying movement and shape.
As she works, she draws and redraws, reworking areas again and again to convey a sense of continuing shifts and flow created by the body in motion.
She translates the dynamism found in a physical gesture into bold mark-making, producing exciting, energy filled work.
Gillian has recently begun to apply the same gestural working methods to paintings of the landscape using the reclaimed moss lands close to her home on the Cheshire/Manchester border as inspiration.
